There is no doubt that the fintechs are coming to stay and to disrupt the financial market forever.  A lot has been said and done to

understand this new system and to prepare for the years to come. Consumers are not only thrilled by the opportunities and benefits created by this massive change, they are already buying it.

Not surprisingly we don’t see the same enthusiasm surrounding the lawtechs, startups that are creating new ways to consume and deliver legal services. Despite the huge market that is already spreading across the globe (see the map above), seems that there is still a long way to go until the Brazilian legal market wakes up for the future.

However, the unimagined disturb caused to financial market is here to teach a lesson to Brazilian law firms: you can pretend that this is not happening, or even “defend” yourself trying to use legal (or culture) barriers (as the taxi drivers tried to do against Uber), or you can reinvent yourself and be prepared for this new world.

It is time for us to talk (and do) more about the important issues surrounding the lawtechs. And don’t forget: your clients will not wait.
